Mr. Fudge was born in 1995, making him
27 years' young!
He is a Welsh Mountain Pony, (Section A)
the smallest of the breed.
Cute and cuddly, at a height of 11.2 hh, (hands high, which is how we measure horses.) A hand is roughly the span of an adult's hand, or 10 cm, which means he is 113 cm tall!
The colour of his coat is called 'dun' or in
America, 'buckskin.'
Nix Moretta, the lady who owns Mr. Fudge, and the writer behind the book, has looked after him for twenty years.
Mr. Fudge is now happily retired from his work on the farm, and lives with his carrot supplier, (!) on the Isle of Arran in Scotland.
Mr. Fudge has been a riding school and therapy pony. Equally working with Autistic children and disadvantaged groups to enhance their experiences of being around animals.
Above all, he is a much loved member of the family, (pictured with the writer's daughter, Poppy), a true sentient being; spirit animal,
and unicorn in training.
'The Island Adventures of Mr. Fudge,' first came about upon the writer's move to Scotland after the incredibly sad sale of her farm in England
due to mental ill-health.
Ordinarily a lecturer and published poet, (www.nix-moretta.co.uk) this is her first children's book, beautifully illustrated by local artist, Jill Hargan, (www.jillharganart.co.uk)
It is a true story of how Mr. Fudge leaves behind his old farm, and all his animal friends, to enjoy a peaceful retirement on a Scottish island.
The story and illustrations will appeal to children from the age of three, with no upper limit!
Grown men have cried tears of joy and sadness upon listening to Mr. Fudge's tales.
